Tube is one of main Moscow’s attractions. Moscow Metropolitan was open in 1935 which was quiet late in comparison to other world’s big cities, but local authorities tried to not only implement up-to-date technologies of the time, but also make it comfortable and beautiful.

 From 1935 to mid-50s Moscow Metro has become a workshop for Soviet architects, where they could display their talents despite difficult conditions. Their efforts were marked by Stalin’s rewards and grand-prix of international exhibitions. Design of stations of this period reflects transition of Soviet architecture from constructivism to Stalin’s monumental style.

Our guide has an official permit of Moscow Metropolitan to conduct tours in the tube, she has extensive knowledge of Soviet architecture and history. In the course of the tour you will see underground halls of eight stations.

In the course of the tour you will learn:

  • Why ingeneers opted for deep drilling
  • Why after the death of Stalin decoration of Metro changed from rich to minimalistic
  • Which Soviet symbols were used on the stations

Starting point – outside exit №1 of station “Krasnye vorota” (line №1), near the map of the city. Our guide will have a bag with “Moscow…and beyond” logo.
